Marketing Calendar 2021: When to Promote Your Business

You should have a solid marketing and social media strategy outlined for 2021. But you may be missing some good opportunities. Be sure to have high-profile shopping days like Black Friday and Valentine’s Day on your calendar but don’t forget to explore the more obscure days and weeks.

We’ve put together a comprehensive list of calendar observations 2021. Here are some strategies to get your creative juices flowing.

See if you pre-qualify!

Social Media and Content Strategy

The pandemic of 2020 sent social media use into the stratosphere! And social media users – especially Tweeters – love to celebrate creative calendar observations with hashtags that often trend nationally. Research popular hashtags used for the day and incorporate into your content to attract more eyeballs. It’s relatively inexpensive to boost content online. Put a little money behind a post to potentially reach new customers. These days you can target ads with laser precision to get your content in front of a target audience.

Host an Event

If your business is still only operating online, consider hosting a virtual event. You can create a Zoom meeting or Google hangout your customers can access at a pre-set time. Offer an incentive for attending, like a discount or a special gift with purchase. Ideas for online fun include trivia, a Pictionary game, or having entertainment like a musician or a magician perform.

A special in-store event for a bricks and mortar location can increase foot traffic. For example, National Coffee Day, also known as Coffee Day or International Coffee Day, is celebrated on September 29th all over the world. On this day, many different types of businesses offer discounted or free cups of coffee to their customers. Not into coffee? International Tea Day is observed annually on December 15.

Support Other Small Businesses

Consider all calendar observations, not just the ones that apply directly to your business. For May’s Lemonade Day promoting young entrepreneurs, invite students who have started their own enterprise to market their business. Learn more about how this strategy can be a win-win for entrepreneurs in your community in these SmartBiz Small Business Blog posts:

Run a Special Promotion

Create special promotions around a calendar observation. Learn how content, newsletters, instore events, giveaways and more can help our comprehensive blog post: 17 Promotional Ideas for Small Businesses.

Focus on the Customer

July’s #GetToKnowYourCustomersDay gives you an opportunity to thank current customers or clients and attract new ones. Here are easy to implement ideas: Customer Appreciation Ideas.

Target a particular customer segment by offering unique specials and discounts to teachers, students, or those in the military.
